Amaran’s new Cam combines 4K/60fps video with software that adjusts compatible lights to a subject’s face in around 10 seconds.
Amaran has launched the Cam, a 4K webcam aimed at creators who want both high-resolution video and more controlled lighting without a complicated setup. The company says the device introduces Auto Lighting, a feature that examines facial exposure and then adjusts compatible amaran lights through the desktop app to build a more balanced scene in about 10 seconds. According to Amaran’s announcement, the system is designed to get users to a camera-ready look with minimal manual tuning.
The webcam is built around a 1/1.3-inch, 50-megapixel sensor and an f/1.68 lens, and it records in 4K at up to 60 frames per second. Amaran says the combination is intended to improve image clarity in low light and preserve background separation, while fast autofocus and 2x lossless zoom in 4K allow users to switch between wider framing and tighter shots without dropping resolution. The company also says the camera has been calibrated for a range of skin tones, which should help preserve colour accuracy at capture.
Auto Lighting currently works with up to two amaran lights, with support for more complex multi-light arrangements planned through later software updates. Users can choose between three lighting looks: Even, which aims for a clean and balanced result; Defined, which adds more shape and depth; and Bold, which pushes contrast for a stronger visual style. Amaran also says the webcam can be rotated into portrait orientation and will then output a native 9:16 feed at up to 4K and 60fps, without cropping or loss of quality.
The camera can also be paired with up to four units for multi-angle production, which may appeal to streamers and presenters who want quicker scene switching. Amaran says the Cam works with major streaming, recording and video-conferencing platforms, including OBS Studio, Streamlabs, Twitch, Zoom and Teams. The device is available now for US$249, or €260 in markets where that pricing applies, and the company is also promoting a streaming bundle that combines the webcam with its Verge light and Mic microphone.
