Reed Security is promoting Alarm.com’s AI Deterrence, which uses video analytics and spoken warnings to challenge suspected trespassers before an intrusion becomes a crime.
Traditional CCTV has long been designed to record wrongdoing after it happens. Reed Security is now promoting a different approach, built around Alarm.com’s AI Deterrence, which uses artificial intelligence and video analytics to issue spoken warnings to suspected trespassers in real time. The aim is to make an intruder believe they are being watched by a live operator, rather than merely captured on camera.
According to Alarm.com, the system analyses a person’s clothing and position on the property before generating a tailored warning, such as identifying what someone is wearing and where they are standing. The message can then warn the person that they are being recorded and that police may be called if they do not leave. The company presents this as a more active form of protection than conventional surveillance, which usually only documents an incident after it has begun.
Reed Security says the feature is intended to strengthen crime prevention rather than simply evidence collection. The company describes the technology as a way to create a stronger first line of defence for businesses and other properties by adding an immediate verbal response at the point of detection. Alarm.com also says AI Deterrence can operate on its own or be combined with its Remote Video Monitoring console, allowing it to sit alongside live monitoring services for sites that want a broader security set-up.
The wider trend is towards security systems that intervene earlier and more visibly. Alarm.com said at CES 2025 that AI Deterrence is part of a broader perimeter security push, while other distributors have framed similar products as tools that detect human movement, identify clothing details and deliver personalised audio warnings. In practical terms, that means these systems are being marketed not as passive cameras but as deterrence tools designed to stop intrusions before damage or theft occurs.
