The US regulator has withdrawn recognition from three Shenzhen laboratories after identifying dozens of incorrect or false reports, intensifying a wider national security crackdown on Chinese testing facilities.
The US Federal Communications Commission has stepped up its effort to strip recognition from testing laboratories in China after concluding that several facilities had submitted incorrect or false results in support of equipment authorisations. In its latest move, the agency withdrew the status of Shenzhen STS Test Services, Shenzhen CTB Testing Technology and SLG-CPC Test Laboratory, signalling that it is treating laboratory integrity as a national security issue as well as a compliance matter.
According to the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology, the three laboratories were linked to dozens of questionable submissions. The agency said it found 38 incorrect or false test reports associated with Shenzhen STS, 20 tied to Shenzhen CTB and 33 linked to SLG-CPC. Those findings come against a wider crackdown on Chinese testing facilities, with Tom’s Hardware reporting that the commission voted unanimously in May 2026 to advance a proposal that could bar all labs in China and Hong Kong from certifying electronics for the US market.
The action against Shenzhen STS follows a proceeding launched in July 2026, when the FCC began seeking to withdraw its recognition after saying the laboratory had willfully provided false equipment test results. In that earlier order, the commission said Shenzhen STS had submitted reports in support of about 4,100 equipment authorisation applications, underlining the scale of the problem the agency says it is trying to address.
The broader regulatory campaign has also extended beyond alleged falsification. Publicly available FCC notices show that in May 2026 the Office of Engineering and Technology moved to withdraw recognition from SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services in Shenzhen because of ownership links to the People’s Republic of China, while separate action against Shenzhen CTB was finalised in October 2026. Taken together, the measures suggest the FCC is using both fraud findings and ownership concerns to tighten control over the testing chain for devices sold in the United States.
