Nothing brings Android 17 to four Phone models, with Phone (2a) next

The staged update adds a redesigned interface, new privacy tools and model-specific camera features to the Phone (4a), (4a) Pro, (3a) and (3a) Pro.

Nothing has begun a staged rollout of its stable Android 17 update to the Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, delivering Nothing OS 5.0 to the company’s newer mid-range handsets. The update is arriving in phases, so owners should not expect it to appear on every device at once. Nothing’s own rollout plan placed these four models in the early-November wave, while the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus are scheduled for a later release window.

The update brings a broad interface refresh. According to Nothing’s changelog and coverage from 9to5Google and Android Authority, the software adds a dedicated Glyph app, separates notifications from Quick Settings, and introduces a redesigned Settings menu. It also includes a Translucent theme, new lock-screen clock styles, custom clock colours and the Geist typeface. Nothing has also added bulk home-screen icon management and a set of visual refinements intended to make the system feel cleaner and more consistent.

Nothing is also expanding privacy and convenience tools. The company says a new privacy indicator shows when apps are using sensitive functions, including location services and AI-related processing. The update adds new widgets such as Collector, Away Time and Glyph Timer, while Nothing’s official notes also point to broader Android 17 changes, including a refined Recents view, expanded dark theme behaviour, brighter HDR support and updated emoji.

Camera features vary by model. On the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, Nothing is adding a Tuning tool with seven adjustable effects, revised Presets, video filters and Dual-view Video mode. The Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro gain Dual-view Video and faster Essential Voice transcription. Across the supported range, Nothing says users should see improvements in video recording, zoom performance, close-up shots and QR code scanning, alongside a refreshed camera interface.

Owners of the affected devices can check their update menus over the coming days and weeks as the rollout continues. Nothing has already signalled that the Phone (2a) family is next in line for Android 17, although the company says timing may differ by region because the release is phased.
