JBL’s Authentics 30 pairs 1970s styling with an eight-hour battery

The 4.83kg speaker launches in China for 2,999 yuan, combining a retro cabinet and carry handle with Bluetooth 6.0 and up to eight hours of battery life. JBL has not confirmed an international release.

JBL has introduced the Authentics 30 in China as a retro-styled Bluetooth speaker priced at 2,999 yuan, or about $445. The launch extends the company’s Authentics line with a model that leans heavily on 1970s-inspired design cues, while positioning itself as a more portable alternative to conventional home speakers.

The speaker’s cabinet is wrapped in faux leather and finished with JBL’s familiar Quadrex front grille, a look that recurs across several reports on the launch. Buyers can choose between earthy orange and metallic black versions, and the top-mounted cast-aluminium handle is intended to make the unit easier to move around the home. Despite that portability focus, the device is not especially small: its dimensions are listed at 331 x 279 x 180 mm, with a weight of 4.83 kg.

Inside, the Authentics 30 uses a 138 mm woofer and two 25 mm tweeters, with coverage claimed from 45 Hz to 20 kHz. Some reports describe the output as 100W. JBL also equips the speaker with Bluetooth 6.0 and controls through the JBL One app, allowing users to adjust audio settings from a phone rather than using only the physical controls on the unit.

Battery life is rated at up to eight hours, which should be enough for moving the speaker between rooms or using it away from a fixed socket for part of the day. JBL also says the product supports 100-240V mains power, so it can operate as a conventional household speaker when plugged in. For now, the launch appears limited to China, and no international release date has been confirmed.
