A staged update aims to stop severe battery drain reported across several Pixel Watch generations. Owners can check the Play Store manually, but Google has not identified the cause.
Google has begun rolling out a fix for the sudden battery drain that has affected some Pixel Watch owners, with reports spanning several generations of the device. According to Android Authority and 9to5Google, some users said their watches were losing charge far faster than normal, with endurance dropping to around 12 hours even under light use.
Google said the remedy is now being distributed and should reach affected devices over the next few days. The company’s advice is to open the watch’s Play Store, go to “Manage apps” and choose “Update all”, a process that may need to be repeated as the staged rollout continues. Google has not identified which app caused the problem, nor explained the technical fault behind it.
The complaints have not been limited to one model. Reports cited by Android Authority and Notebookcheck pointed to problems on supported Pixel Watch devices from the Pixel Watch 2 through the Pixel Watch 5, while 9to5Google described similar battery loss on both Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 4 units. Some owners said their watches were losing about 20 per cent of battery life within a few hours, even when idle.
That pattern has led observers to suspect a software issue rather than a hardware defect, although Google has not confirmed the cause. The company has said only that a small number of users are affected, a characterisation that sits uneasily with the volume of complaints across multiple generations. For now, the practical step for owners is to check for updates manually and return to the Play Store over the coming days if the fix does not appear immediately.
