Nekki’s latest update to Cascadeur adds a versatile animation layer system, easing controls, and significant AI-driven enhancements, streamlining artist workflows across game development and visual effects.
Nekki has released Cascadeur 2026.2, adding a new animation layer system that lets artists stack motion non-destructively and switch individual layers on or off as needed. According to CG Channel’s report, the update also introduces easing controls for interpolation, giving users more control over timing by adjusting how frames are spaced along a path without changing the trajectory itself.
The release also builds on Cascadeur’s AI-driven tools. CG Channel said the software’s motion generation feature, formerly called Root Motion, and its AI inbetweening system have both been retrained on larger datasets. The AutoPosing system has been improved too, with better support for quadrupeds and more awareness of the environment when positioning humanoid hands and feet. Those changes sit within a broader toolset that has aimed since Cascadeur’s 2019 launch to offer an artist-friendly alternative for game development, motion graphics and visual effects, with AI assistance helping generate physically plausible movement.
For pipeline work, the new version adds BVH animation import, although it does not yet read other scene data from BVH files. Nekki has also added a simple MCP server for connecting the software to external AI tools, while developers gain PySide custom UI options and Intellisense support for Cascadeur’s Python API modules. The interface is now available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean as well as English. Cascadeur 2026.2 runs on Windows 10 and later, Ubuntu 20.04 and later, and macOS 13.3 and later. Indie subscriptions cost $19 a month or $96 a year for users earning under $100,000 annually, while Pro plans are priced at $49 a month or $396 a year, with both offered on a rent-to-own basis. A free edition remains available, though it is not licensed for commercial use and saves in Cascadeur’s own .casc format rather than standard interchange formats.
