After two weeks with the Garmin Cirqa, early insights reveal a device that better recognises everyday movement, addressing a longstanding weakness, though still with room for accuracy enhancements in step tracking.
After two weeks with the Garmin Cirqa, the picture is clearer: this is not just another screenless fitness tracker, but a device that appears to address one of Garmin’s long-standing weaknesses. In early use, the Cirqa seems much better at spotting everyday movement automatically, including walks that earlier Garmin watches have often ignored. That matters because it means routine trips to the shops or a café can now count towards a user’s activity log rather than disappearing from view.
That improvement may sound modest, but it changes how the device fits into daily life. For people who do not always have time for a formal workout, automatic recognition helps fill in the gaps and gives a fuller account of the day. On the Cirqa, those walks are being picked up in Garmin Connect, including routes with hills that would usually count as meaningful exercise. By contrast, one hands-on test from Tom’s Guide found the Cirqa still has room to improve on step tracking: when a writer manually counted 5,500 steps, the watch logged 4,605 and did not identify the movement as a walk, instead treating it as a generic workout.
That makes the Cirqa look less like a finished rival to the best-known smartwatches and more like a promising specialist tracker in its early days. The comparison is awkward because Apple’s latest watch line remains strong on accuracy and broader health features, while Google’s Pixel Watch 4 offers tighter Android integration and better battery life than Apple’s model, according to Android Central. In separate step-count tests, Tom’s Guide found the Apple Watch Series 11 edged out both the Pixel Watch 4 and the Garmin Cirqa for accuracy. Even so, Garmin’s appeal remains distinct: the Cirqa is screenless, haptic-equipped, subscription-free and said to last up to 10 days on a charge, making it attractive for users who want simplicity and long battery life more than a full smartwatch experience.
