Samsung is set to introduce a significant visual update to its SmartThings app, matching the new One UI 8 design language, featuring dynamic backgrounds and new widgets, as part of its broader software refresh for Galaxy devices.
Samsung’s SmartThings app is finally set for the visual overhaul that has already reached other parts of the company’s software ecosystem, according to reporting from SamMobile. The update would bring the smart-home app into line with Samsung’s newer One UI 8 design language, ending a mismatch that has lingered since the rest of the company’s apps were refreshed late last year.
SamMobile says evidence of the upcoming version points to a pill-shaped floating tab bar with five sections: Home, Devices, Life, Routines and Menu. The app’s background would also become more dynamic, shifting with the time of day and location and drawing on nine preloaded live wallpapers. New SmartThings Now cards are expected to surface suggested actions at the top of the home screen, while Samsung is also preparing three new widget types: Device Control, Screen Device Control and Routines.
The timing fits with Samsung’s wider push behind One UI 8. The company said the software has begun rolling out officially to Galaxy devices, starting with the Galaxy S25 series and expanding to more eligible models later in the year. Samsung describes the update as bringing more advanced multimodal AI features, interface changes for different device types and more personalised suggestions, while its support pages say the release is designed to improve usability and data protection. SamMobile has separately reported that the stable rollout is already under way for selected Galaxy phones and tablets, underlining that SmartThings now appears to be the next major app in line for the same treatment.
