Redmi is considering a significant shift in its flagship naming and launch strategy, potentially skipping the K110 model to leap directly to the K200 series, signalling a broader industry trend of staged releases and generational leaps.
Redmi appears to be rethinking the naming of its next flagship phones, with industry reports suggesting the company may skip the K110 label entirely and move straight to a K200 series. The speculation follows the brand’s upcoming August 11 launch event, which is expected to showcase the K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max first, even as questions build over what comes next. According to Gizmochina, the naming debate surfaced on Weibo after product manager Mia Xinxin hinted that K110 sounded awkward, implying that other options are under consideration.
That would mark a notable break from Redmi’s usual numbering pattern, which has progressed in a more orderly sequence through the K70, K80 and K90 generations before the expected K100 family. Gizmochina and Sina Finance both report that the company has shifted its launch rhythm this year, with the Pro models set to arrive before the standard K100, which may follow later. Sina Finance also said the K100 line has been brought forward to August, roughly two months ahead of the K90 launch window in October 2025.
The change in timing also points to a broader adjustment in Redmi’s flagship strategy. Rather than unveiling the full range at once, the company is apparently prioritising its highest-end devices first, a move that mirrors a wider industry habit of using skipped numbers or staggered releases to signal a bigger generational leap. Gizmochina notes that brands such as Vivo and Honor have used similar tactics before, while separate reporting suggests Redmi may even be testing a future flagship built around Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip for a 2027 debut.
There is also some uncertainty around the K100 Pro Max itself. Gadgets360 reported that the model could be replaced by a different flagship variant altogether, while another report said the Pro Max may land later than the rest of the range. Taken together, the reports suggest Redmi is not only revising its naming plan but also reworking the order and scope of its premium phone roll-out.
