Qualcomm and Samsung expand their collaboration, integrating Snapdragon chips into new Galaxy foldables and smartwatches to deliver more seamless, context-aware AI experiences across devices.
Qualcomm and Samsung are deepening a long-running partnership that will place Snapdragon silicon at the heart of Samsung’s latest Galaxy foldables and smartwatches, according to company announcements. The move extends Qualcomm’s role across the Galaxy ecosystem and is being pitched as a push towards more context-aware artificial intelligence that works across phones and wearables.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy is set to power Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform will underpin the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Qualcomm said. Samsung’s own launch materials say the Snapdragon platform is designed to support a more unified AI experience by combining on-device processing with stronger device-to-device connectivity.
Qualcomm chief executive Cristiano Amon said the companies were entering a new phase in which intelligence is built into the personal devices people rely on throughout the day. He said the latest Galaxy products are helping to deliver a more natural and context-aware form of AI across the ecosystem. Qualcomm also says the new mobile chip, built on its Oryon CPU architecture, is aimed at delivering high performance and better power efficiency for features such as advanced cameras, gaming and AI-assisted connectivity.
For Samsung’s wearables, Qualcomm says Snapdragon Wear Elite is its first smartwatch platform for the company and has been designed with personal AI in mind. The chip uses advanced sensor fusion, which combines data from multiple sensors to improve responsiveness and personalise features, according to Qualcomm. That suggests Samsung is extending Snapdragon beyond premium phones and into a broader connected device strategy, with the Z Flip8 also using Snapdragon in selected markets.
