Apple has launched macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 across compatible Macs, focusing on bug fixes, security enhancements, and preparing the platform for the upcoming macOS 27 release, with updates also rolling out for Safari and developer tools.
Apple has rolled out macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 to all compatible Macs, with the update appearing in Software Update in System Settings. According to Mr. Macintosh’s analysis, Apple’s public notes are brief, but the release is intended to deliver bug fixes, security updates and a Spotlight index change meant to prepare the platform for macOS 27.
The update follows macOS Tahoe 26.6, which arrived on July 27, and sits within Apple’s wider round of system releases that also include new versions of Sequoia and Sonoma. Mr. Macintosh’s build tracking indicates Tahoe 26.6.1 carries the build number 25G76, while Apple has also published matching updates for Safari and the developer toolchain.
Apple’s security page lists the release as one that patches vulnerabilities, although the company has not yet broken out the full CVE detail in the public summary cited by Mr. Macintosh. The site also notes that Safari 26.6.1 is part of the update set. On the enterprise side, Apple says there are no documented business-facing changes in this release.
Developer notes add a little more colour. Apple says encrypted HFS+ using CoreStorage is deprecated and will not be supported in macOS 28, advising users with encrypted HFS+ backups on external drives to move to encrypted APFS volumes instead. The notes also mention fixes for incorrect Intel-only deprecation warnings, misleading Health statistics when samples overlap, and garbled HDR screenshots sent in Messages.
