Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 introduces a significant battery upgrade and advanced outdoor features, positioning itself as a formidable rival to Apple and Garmin in the premium smartwatch market.
Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is already being positioned as a sharper, more capable rival to premium wearables from Apple and Garmin, with Samsung leaning heavily on battery life, outdoor features and a tougher build. The watch was unveiled at the company’s July Unpacked event and, according to Lifehacker, Amazon is offering a $100 gift card on pre-orders priced at $699.99 until the device begins shipping on August 7.
Samsung says the Ultra 2 uses an 800mAh battery, about 35% larger than before, and that it can last around 60 hours with the display always on or roughly three days on lighter settings. The company’s official product page also highlights a titanium case, a 1.52-inch AMOLED display rated at up to 5,000 nits for brightness and Snapdragon Wear Elite hardware designed to improve performance and responsiveness.
The hardware changes are not just about endurance. Samsung has made the watch thinner and lighter, while keeping the rugged credentials that define the Ultra line. It carries 10ATM water resistance, IP69K protection and EN13319 dive certification, alongside dual-frequency GPS, trail-running tools with elevation data and hydration guidance. Samsung also says the watch supports NB-NTN satellite connectivity, which would allow messaging or calls without a cellular signal. SamMobile and Notebookcheck said the launch model comes in Titanium Gray and Titanium Silver and starts at $699 in the US, with the LTE version listed at €749 in Europe.
Software and health tracking are also central to Samsung’s pitch. SamMobile reported that the watch runs One UI 9 Watch based on Wear OS 7 and adds health tools such as AGEs, Antioxidant Index and Blood Pressure Trend, along with new Fitness Index and Vitals features. The same report said Samsung is promising five major operating system updates, a commitment that may matter as much to buyers as the headline battery gains.
