Samsung’s 1TB T7 portable SSD is being promoted at a discounted price, offering fast speeds and high portability, making it an attractive upgrade for students and remote workers in a competitive market.
Back-to-school season is usually about notebooks, laptops and backpacks, but storage has become part of the shopping list too. For students, remote workers and anyone with a cluttered device, a portable solid-state drive can be one of the simplest upgrades to make. Cord Cutters News said Samsung’s 1TB T7 portable SSD was being promoted as an August deal, while Samsung’s own store currently lists the drive at $98.99, down from $129.99.
The appeal is easy to understand. Samsung says the T7 uses PCIe NVMe technology and delivers read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s, which makes it far quicker than a traditional external hard drive for moving large video files, photo libraries, game installs and schoolwork. The drive also comes in a compact aluminium body, with 256-bit AES hardware encryption and a drop rating of up to six feet.
That mix of speed and portability has made the T7 especially useful for people who work across several devices. Samsung says it is compatible with Windows PCs, Macs, Android devices, gaming consoles and newer smartphones, so it can move easily from a dorm room desk to a home office or travel bag. For cord-cutting households in particular, that flexibility matters when storing media libraries, backups and downloaded content for offline viewing.
The broader market for portable storage has also been competitive. PCWorld has highlighted steep discounts on Samsung’s tougher T7 Shield model, including 1TB prices around $100, while Android Central reported a Prime Day 2026 offer that cut the standard T7 1TB to $189.99. Against that backdrop, Samsung’s current pricing suggests the brand’s portable SSD line remains a frequent target for seasonal promotions, especially as students and travellers look for a fast, durable way to expand storage without replacing a computer.
