Framework has unveiled the Laptop 13 Pro, delivering significant improvements in battery endurance and build quality, but these come with a higher price tag driven by memory market shortages. The new model maintains its repairability edge, promising a durable, upgradeable machine for power users willing to pay a premium.
Framework has finally built the 13-inch machine many of its followers have wanted since the company’s first laptop arrived in 2021: one that feels genuinely premium, lasts all day and still keeps the repair-and-upgrade ethos intact. Reviews across several publications have converged on the same view: the Laptop 13 Pro is the company’s most convincing hardware to date, with a CNC-machined aluminium chassis, a much improved haptic touchpad and a custom touchscreen display giving it a far more polished character than earlier models. Tom’s Guide, Ars Technica and Tom’s Hardware all described it as a substantial step up rather than a routine refresh.
The standout change is battery life. Where earlier Framework laptops were often criticised for middling endurance, the new model appears to have solved that weakness decisively. Tom’s Hardware reported nearly 16 hours in its testing, while Tom’s Guide put endurance at up to 17 hours and Framework’s own figures claim as much as 20 hours under controlled conditions. The gains come from a larger 74Wh battery and the use of LPCAMM2 memory in Intel versions, which helps free up internal space. Reviewers also singled out the haptic trackpad as one of the most Apple-like elements Framework has ever shipped, even if the display bezel still looks less refined than the rest of the machine.
That engineering progress comes with a sharp commercial sting. TechRadar and Tom’s Hardware reported that Framework was forced to lift LPCAMM2 prices sharply as the wider DRAM market tightened, with 32GB modules rising to $800 and 64GB modules to $1,600. Tom’s Hardware said the review configuration climbed to roughly $4,023 by publication, turning what should have been a high-end but defensible modular laptop into a far harder sell. Tom’s Guide likewise warned that the system’s pricing and availability had become much less attractive than initially expected.
Even so, the Framework still preserves one of its core promises: continuity. PCWorld reported that parts from earlier Framework 13 laptops can still be reused in the new Pro chassis, while the new mainboard can also move into older bodies, subject to the usual compatibility limits around battery size, Wi-Fi modules and the updated keyboard deck. That backward compatibility keeps the company’s upgrade story intact, and it remains a key reason why some buyers may be willing to accept the high upfront cost. The latest machine also keeps Linux support front and centre, with reviewers noting clean compatibility and a lack of bloatware.
For now, the Framework Laptop 13 Pro looks like a laptop for a narrower audience than its best-in-class build quality might suggest: people who value repairability enough to pay for it, do not mind a premium price, and plan to keep upgrading over years rather than replacing the whole machine. In that sense, it is both the company’s strongest product and its most complicated one. Framework has shown it can now build a beautiful, capable 13-inch laptop; the harder question is how many buyers can afford the memory to go with it.
