Redmi has launched its 17 series in Malaysia, unveiling a battery-centric budget line featuring a massive 7,500mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, and durable design, prioritising endurance over camera prestige or premium build quality.

TechNave said the base Redmi 17 4G starts at RM699 for the 4GB plus 128GB model, while the Redmi 17 5G is priced at RM799 for the same memory configuration and RM899 for the 4GB plus 256GB version. Early-bird pricing on Xiaomi’s official Shopee store lowers those figures to RM669 and RM769 until 31 August 2026.
The headline feature is the 7,500mAh battery, which supports 45W charging and up to 22.5W reverse wired charging, effectively allowing the phone to act as a portable power source for other devices. TechNave reported that the handset also has a 6.9-inch HD display with a 120Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and TÜV Rheinland eye-care certification. Xiaomi is also pairing the phone with IP64 dust and splash resistance, dual stereo speakers with a claimed 300% volume boost and a customisable RGB light strip on the back.
On the hardware side, the Malaysian models are said to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, with 4GB of RAM and up to 12GB of effective memory through expansion software. Storage comes in 128GB and 256GB variants. The camera system centres on a 50-megapixel AI dual rear setup, while Xiaomi HyperOS 3 handles the software. TechNave also highlighted a “HyperIsland” interface feature and 48-month software optimisation intended to keep the phone feeling responsive over time.
The Malaysian launch appears to close the gap between earlier rumours and the final retail device. Before release, TechNave had suggested a MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra for the 4G model, while Gizchina cited SIRIM certification for a Redmi 17 4G variant with a 7,500mAh battery and the same MediaTek chip. The official launch instead places Snapdragon silicon at the centre of the series, underlining how pre-release leaks can differ from final market specifications. For buyers, the Redmi 17 series is best understood as a battery-first budget line aimed at users who value long life, basic durability and low running cost over flagship features.
