Samsung redefines foldables and smartwatches with AI-driven upgrades and aggressive pre-order offers

Samsung unveils its latest Galaxy foldables and smartwatches featuring thinner designs, brighter screens, and enhanced AI features, complemented by a substantial pre-order campaign targeting early adopters.

Samsung’s latest foldables and smartwatches arrive with a familiar formula: thinner hardware, brighter screens and a heavier emphasis on on-device artificial intelligence. The new line-up includes the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, with Samsung positioning the devices as productivity tools as much as consumer gadgets. The company is also using the launch window to push an aggressive pre-order campaign that runs until August 13, offering storage upgrades, trade-in credits, Care+ coverage and a six-month Google AI Pro trial.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the most ambitious model in the range. Samsung says it has a 3,000-nit display with anti-reflective coating, a Flex Titanium chassis and a camera system built around a 200-megapixel main sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. The company is also adding new AI features, including tools that surface useful actions from conversations and a notebook function that brings together documents, photos, voice notes and handwritten material in one place. In the United States, Samsung’s own offers page lists a free storage upgrade worth up to $200, trade-in savings of up to $1,200 and the six-month Google AI Pro trial for early buyers.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is pitched as the more compact large-screen option, with Samsung moving to a 7.6-inch main display and a 4:3 aspect ratio meant to work better in both portrait and landscape use. The Galaxy Z Flip8 remains the small-format foldable, now weighing 180 grams and measuring 6.1mm thick, with a 50-megapixel camera, improved hinge design and a larger external FlexWindow for notifications and quick tasks. Reuters-style reporting from other markets suggests Samsung is backing the launch with layered retail and carrier discounts, with pre-order bundles varying by country and retailer.

The wearables follow the same pattern. Samsung says the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 uses an 800mAh battery, a 5,000-nit display and a titanium case, with features aimed at runners and divers. The Galaxy Watch9 is lighter, with an aluminium case, a 390mAh battery and health-tracking tools that monitor several biological signals. In Singapore, Samsung said the new watches would go on sale from August 14 after pre-orders opened on July 22, while in the US and other markets carrier promotions and finance plans are also part of the sales push. The larger point is clear: Samsung is pairing hardware updates with software-driven features and short-term discounts to keep the foldable category moving.
