Huawei’s new MateBook X Pro redefines ultra-portable premium laptops with OLED display and AI enhancements

Huawei’s latest MateBook X Pro aims to set new standards in ultra-portable Windows laptops, combining a lightweight design, high-end OLED display, and cutting-edge AI features for professional users seeking portability without compromise.

Huawei’s latest MateBook X Pro is aimed squarely at buyers who want a full-featured Windows laptop without the usual weight penalty. According to Huawei’s specifications, the Core Ultra Premium Edition weighs 980 grammes and is 13.5 mm thick, putting it firmly in the ultra-portable class while still targeting professional use.

The main attraction is the 14.2-inch OLED display, which uses a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 3,120 by 2,080 resolution. Huawei says the panel runs at 120Hz, with support for wide colour gamuts and a peak brightness level designed to improve outdoor visibility. That combination should appeal to users working with text, images and video, where sharpness and colour accuracy matter more than gaming features.

Inside, the machine is built around Intel Core Ultra 9 silicon, with configurations offering up to 32GB of memory and up to 2TB of NVMe PCIe solid-state storage. Huawei also highlights its integrated AI processing unit, which is intended to accelerate on-device artificial intelligence tasks without leaning so heavily on the main processor. The company pairs that hardware with Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, along with its Super Device software for connecting phones and tablets across its ecosystem.

The broader significance is that Huawei is pushing further into a market segment where premium pricing is expected but battery life, thermals and durability still need to match the promise of the design. Earlier MateBook X Pro models were heavier, used lower-refresh displays or smaller batteries, and did not offer the same emphasis on OLED or Intel’s newer AI-focused platform. This latest version therefore looks less like a routine refresh and more like a deliberate attempt to define the standard for high-end ultraportables.
