Redmi has released the A7 in Malaysia, offering a larger 6.88-inch screen and a simplified 13-megapixel camera, targeting entry-level users amid rising budget phone prices.
REDMI has added another entry-level handset to its Malaysian line-up, with the A7 positioned below the A7 Pro and aimed at buyers looking for basic specifications rather than premium features. The phone keeps the same general design language as its predecessor, measuring 8.26mm thick and weighing 193g, while Xiaomi says it will be sold in Black, Sky Blue and Orchid Purple.
The display is a 6.88-inch LCD panel with a 1,640 x 720 resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and typical brightness rated at 450 nits. Xiaomi also says the screen supports Wet Touch Technology, which is designed to remain responsive when used with damp hands. For security, the A7 includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock.
Inside, the phone uses a Unisoc T7250 processor, paired in Malaysia with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Power comes from a 5,200mAh battery with 15W wired charging. The device supports 4G and Wi-Fi 5, and the global product page also indicates memory extension support on higher configurations of the same model.
The biggest change from the REDMI A5 is the camera system. The new model uses a single 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, replacing the 32-megapixel unit found on the earlier handset, while the 8-megapixel front camera remains unchanged. Xiaomi says the REDMI A7 will go on sale in Malaysia from 15 September at RM469 through its stores and official online channels, including Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop. That pricing is notably higher than the A5’s launch price of RM299 for the base variant, reflecting the continued pressure on budget phone pricing.
