Hero MotoCorp is set to triple its electric vehicle production to 45,000 units per month by FY27, as it expands capacity at its Chittoor plant and broadens its Vida EV range to capture rising market demand.
Hero MotoCorp is sharpening its electric vehicle strategy with a plan to lift monthly EV output to 45,000 units by the end of FY27, a threefold increase from the level expected at the close of FY26, according to the company’s announcement. The move underlines a faster push into electric two-wheelers as the Vida brand gains importance within Hero’s broader product line-up.
The expansion comes alongside a wider manufacturing plan. Business Standard reported in May that Hero MotoCorp had lined up ₹1,500 crore in capital expenditure for FY27 to double scooter production capacity, while also committing more than ₹700 crore to a global parts centre in South India. Company executives said at the time that the spending would support stronger models and help the group move towards a monthly output target of 100,000 scooters.
Autocar Pro reported that the EV investment is focused on Hero’s Sri City plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, where capacity is being doubled as the company prepares to add more Vida models. Those plans include an affordable scooter, along with electric motorcycles and other niche formats, as Hero seeks to broaden its reach in a market where demand for electric two-wheelers continues to rise.
The timing of the expansion follows a strong first quarter for Hero MotoCorp. The company said standalone profit rose 29% year on year to ₹1,454 crore, while revenue climbed 36%, helped by higher volumes and a better product mix. For Hero, the combination of stronger operating performance and fresh investment suggests a business trying to balance its core motorcycle base with a more ambitious electric future.
