Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 has reached an unusual milestone for a premium foldable: Amazon has run out of stock, according to Android Police. The device starts at $1,900, yet the retailer is still taking orders even though it cannot currently give buyers an estimated delivery date. That is a notable result for a product category long viewed as niche, particularly for a model built around a wider, book-style design that once seemed unlikely to gain broad traction.
Android Police reported that Best Buy and Samsung are still showing availability, which suggests the shortage is limited to Amazon rather than a wider supply problem. Amazon’s current deal is also the strongest of the lot for unlocked buyers, as it includes a $350 gift card. The retailer is additionally offering up to $200 more for a trade-in, making the package more aggressive than the promotions elsewhere.
For Samsung, the response matters because the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may face little direct competition in the United States in the near term. Google’s next Pixel event is set for August 12, but there are no signs that it will introduce a wide-format foldable there, while OnePlus is absent from the market and Nothing is not pursuing foldables. Outside the US, rival wide foldables may emerge, but in the American market the closest threat could come from Apple if long-running rumours about its first foldable prove accurate.
That leaves Samsung with a rare position: a high-priced foldable that is not only available, but apparently hard enough to get that one of the country’s largest retailers has temporarily sold through its stock. Android Police said interest has been strong and the market reaction increasingly positive, suggesting that foldables may be moving from curiosity to mainstream premium hardware.
