The Indian government has approved a Rs 3,000 crore electronics manufacturing cluster in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, aiming to boost domestic production, create 9,000 jobs, and attract key semiconductor and electronics companies amid broader national digital and industrial growth strategies.
The Union government has approved a new electronics manufacturing cluster in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, in a move the state says could strengthen its position in India’s fast-growing technology manufacturing base. The project, known as EMC 2.0, is expected to draw more than Rs 3,000 crore in investment and create about 9,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to the report from The News Mill. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has cleared central financial assistance of Rs 210.56 crore for a scheme with an overall estimated cost of Rs 432.08 crore.
The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation will develop the cluster across about 306 acres, with ready-built factory units, power and water connections, warehousing and other industrial services designed to shorten the time companies need before starting production. The report said four anchor companies from the semiconductor, electric vehicle and smart electronics sectors have already shown interest, which would give the project an early industrial base if those commitments turn into formal investments.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the approval. According to The News Mill, Sai said, “The decision reflects the increasing confidence of investors in Chhattisgarh.” He also said the state would focus on industry-linked skills training for local young people so they can compete for jobs created by the new cluster.
The cluster fits into broader central policy goals such as Make in India, Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, all of which aim to deepen domestic production and reduce reliance on imported components. The same day, separate reports from Polymatech Electronics and OEM Update said the government had also notified a semiconductor and electronic components special economic zone at Nava Raipur, showing that Chhattisgarh is emerging as a more active location for electronics and chip-related manufacturing. Polymatech said the zone covers 10.13 hectares and is intended for export-oriented production, with customs treatment that supports logistics and movement of goods.
