Apple crosses $10 billion in India as premium iPhone sales accelerate and manufacturing shifts east

Apple’s Indian business has hit a historic milestone with over $10 billion in annual sales, driven by rising iPhone demand and increased local manufacturing, marking a strategic pivot in its global growth plans.

Apple’s business in India has crossed a symbolic threshold, with annual sales passing $10 billion for the first time, according to Bloomberg. The milestone underlines how the country has moved from a promising growth market to one of the company’s most important international opportunities, even as the wider smartphone market remains relatively subdued.

The strongest driver remains the iPhone. Industry data cited by TechCrunch shows Apple shipped about 14 million iPhones in India in 2025, lifting its market share to a record 9%. The company has benefited from broader product availability, stronger demand for premium phones and a wider retail footprint, as well as financing incentives such as trade-in deals, student discounts and bank cashback offers that soften the impact of high prices.

India is also becoming more important to Apple’s manufacturing strategy. TechSpot reported that about a quarter of all iPhones were assembled in India in 2025, marking a sharp rise from the previous year. That shift reflects Apple’s effort to reduce its dependence on China, helped by production-linked incentives from the Indian government and pressure from tariffs and supply-chain risk. Business Standard said India accounted for about 12% of Apple’s global production value in fiscal 2024-25, while one in every five iPhones made globally came from the country.

The company’s retail and supply networks are expanding alongside production. Apple now has six branded stores in India and works with a larger base of local suppliers and premium resellers to reach customers beyond the biggest metropolitan centres. That wider reach has helped support sales growth in smaller cities, where demand for high-end smartphones has been rising.

Recent shipment data suggests the momentum has continued into 2026. Nation Press reported that the iPhone 17 series made up 44% of Apple’s iPhone shipments in India in the second quarter, despite seasonal pressure and supply constraints. The iPhone 16 series also remained a major contributor, pointing to sustained demand for Apple’s premium line-up even as rivals raise prices across the Android market.
