Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 17 globally with distinct hardware configurations, including different chipset options for 4G and 5G models, alongside notable features such as a 7,500mAh battery and a 6.9-inch LCD screen.
Xiaomi’s Redmi brand has taken a different route for the global Redmi 17 launch, pairing the international models with hardware that differs sharply from the Chinese version. The most notable split is under the bonnet: the Redmi 17 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, while the 4G model relies on MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra. Both versions use LPDDR4X memory, but the 5G phone gets faster UFS 2.2 storage, whereas the 4G handset uses older eMMC 5.1 flash.
Despite that divergence, the two phones are closely matched elsewhere. Each has a 6.9-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution, an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 825 nits. Xiaomi says the panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i and has received TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light and flicker reduction, a sign that the company is pitching the phone partly on eye comfort as well as size.
The battery is another major selling point. Both models carry a 7,500mAh cell, with support for 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging, which allows the phone to top up other devices. Xiaomi has also fitted a 50-megapixel dual rear camera system, an 8-megapixel front camera, stereo speakers with claimed 300% sound enhancement, IP64 protection and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The phones ship with Android 16 and HyperOS 3.
Pricing for the 5G model starts at $190 in Malaysia for the 4GB/128GB version, with global pricing beginning at $249. Xiaomi has also indicated that the 4G variant will arrive in white, red and green, although it has not yet given a full market timetable.
