Apple is expected to keep its autumn cadence for the iPhone 18 Pro, with industry watchers pointing to an early September unveiling and a possible Wednesday, September 9 event. That timing fits Apple’s long-running pattern of using the first full weeks of September to kick off its flagship cycle, giving the company a predictable runway for component allocation, factory output and holiday-quarter sales. Forbes reported that the schedule also helps Apple align with carrier upgrade cycles, software launches and the wider rhythm of its hardware ecosystem.
Supply chain reporting suggests the company is already in the production ramp-up phase. According to 9to5Mac and MacRumors, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have entered mass production, while Foxconn is increasing recruitment and offering stronger pay and rehire bonuses to return workers at its Zhengzhou operation. That points to Apple preparing for a large-scale launch window rather than a late, limited rollout.
Even so, the launch is not without risk. Tom’s Hardware reported that Apple is dealing with a DRAM shortage that has left about $1 billion in processor wafers waiting for packaging, raising concerns about memory supply for the A20 Pro and C2 chips. The report said Apple relies heavily on Micron, with additional supply from SK Hynix and Samsung, and is looking at alternative sources, including China’s CXMT. That could complicate planning if shortages persist beyond the initial launch wave.
The broader strategy still favours September. Forbes argued that Apple’s fixed release window helps it secure semiconductor capacity with TSMC, manage freight before the holiday shipping peak and release products just as many customers are eligible for carrier upgrades. MacRumors also reported that the standard iPhone 18 may be delayed until spring 2027, leaving the Pro models to carry the September spotlight on their own. If that happens, Apple would be using the premium tier not only as a product launch, but as the anchor for an unusual staggered iPhone cycle.
