xAI launches Imagine Image 2.0 to enhance precision and control in commercial image creation

xAI introduces Imagine Image 2.0, a new Quality Mode for Grok’s image tool, providing advanced editing, compositing, and resizing capabilities for professional workflows across web and mobile platforms.

xAI has rolled out Imagine Image 2.0, a Quality Mode for Grok’s image tool that is available on the web and through the iOS and Android apps. The company says an API is planned, but it is not yet live. The update is aimed less at simple one-off image generation than at work that needs tighter visual control and more dependable output.

According to xAI, the new model is built to follow detailed prompts more accurately and to handle more complex compositions. It is designed to preserve small text, keep typography legible and hold visual elements steady when users edit or regenerate images. That puts it in line with a wider shift in text-to-image systems, which have moved beyond novelty images towards use in design, marketing and product workflows.

The editing tools are also more granular. Users can isolate parts of an image with selection tools and change only the chosen area, rather than disturbing the full frame. The system can remove backgrounds, create transparent images and accept up to five reference images in one generation. xAI says that should reduce the need for manual compositing when building more elaborate scenes.

Another feature, Smart Resize, expands an existing image to fit new aspect ratios, including vertical, square and wide formats. That makes it easier to adapt the same asset for different platforms without rebuilding the image from scratch. xAI is also offering preset templates for common tasks such as product recolouring, e-commerce images, portraits, icons, character sprites, emojis and merchandise designs. The company says Image 2.0 can also support video planning by generating characters, settings and props in a consistent style.
