The Xiaomi 17T proves to be a cost-effective choice for users prioritising camera features, with a focus on its telephoto lens and battery life, challenging the value of the Pro version.

Xiaomi’s 17T looks like the more rational buy in the line-up for people who want the main strengths of the series without paying for the Pro model’s extras. According to IXBT Articles, the handset keeps the features that matter most to everyday users: a three-camera system, including a telephoto lens with serious optical zoom, a bright OLED display and strong battery life.

The trade-offs are straightforward. The standard model uses a plastic body and does not support wireless charging, while the Pro version adds more premium materials and additional headline features. Yet Tech Advisor also found the 17T’s design to be compact and praised its main and telephoto cameras, alongside its battery performance, which supports the case for the cheaper device as the more balanced option.

That argument is reinforced by comparison coverage from Gizmochina, which says the Pro model’s larger display and higher-end build do not obviously justify the extra cost for most buyers. Xiaomi for All reached a similar conclusion, saying the regular 17T remains a strong contender in its price band even after accounting for the Pro’s upgrades.

The camera system is the main reason the 17T stands out. Notebookcheck said the 5x telephoto lens is a major advantage over similarly priced rivals, although it also noted weaker low-light zoom performance and the lack of wireless charging. IXBT Articles said the price gap between the two models was 18,000 roubles for the same storage configuration at the time of its review, making the standard 17T look especially attractive for buyers who value zoom photography more than a flagship processor or 8K video capture.
