Hisense’s latest A10 handset breaks new ground with a detachable colour LCD module paired with a monochrome e-ink display, offering users a tailored mix of reading and full-colour smartphone functionalities.
Hisense is taking an unusual route with its latest handset, the A10, by pairing a monochrome e-paper front panel with a detachable colour LCD module. According to Gizmochina, the device is aimed at readers and users who want the low-glare feel of electronic paper most of the time, but still want a conventional smartphone screen for media, social apps or other colour-heavy tasks when needed.
The main display is a 6.13-inch e-ink panel, while the optional LCD unit attaches magnetically to the rear of the phone. TechRadar reported that the concept gives the A10 a split identity: a device optimised for reading and note-taking on one hand, and a more familiar full-colour smartphone experience on the other. Tech Advisor also said the secondary screen is sold separately, allowing buyers to pay only for the hardware they actually want.
Hisense appears to have built in several ways to switch between the two modes. The Zoomit report said users can change from e-ink to LCD through a physical smart key, quick system settings or a button on the display itself. It also said the main panel uses a T2000 controller chip designed to improve refresh behaviour and overall responsiveness on the paper-like screen.
Under the hood, the A10 uses a 4-nanometre octa-core Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-6690 processor and runs Android 16, according to the reports. Other listed features include NFC, an infrared transmitter, magnetic wireless charging and call recording. Hisense is due to bring the A10 to the Chinese market on September 6, extending its long-standing interest in e-paper devices into a more modular format.
