Google is experimenting with a redesigned homepage that integrates AI tools more prominently, offering shortcuts for image generation, document analysis, and brainstorming, signalling a shift towards a more conversational, AI-led search experience.
Google is testing a redesigned home page that pushes artificial intelligence closer to the centre of search. Instead of the familiar “Pesquisa Google” button, some users are seeing shortcuts for generating images, asking questions about documents and getting help with brainstorming, while the long-standing “Estou com sorte” button remains in place. According to Tecnoblog, the experiment suggests Google is continuing to turn Search into a more conversational, AI-led product rather than a simple gateway to links.
The test appears to be limited. Search Engine Watch found the new layout on the home page when signed out in Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Perplexity Comet, but the traditional design returned once a Google account was used. Tecnoblog reported similar restrictions in its own checks, saying the new buttons did not appear in logged-in or logged-out tests in Vivaldi and Firefox, which suggests a narrow rollout.
The new shortcuts point to tools already built into Search. Search Engine Watch said the document-focused option can analyse uploads such as text files, spreadsheets and images, then return summaries or key points. The brainstorming tool offers prompt templates for idea generation, although Google has not yet given it a dedicated home-page entry. The image generator, by contrast, requires a signed-in Google account.
The broader direction has been visible for more than a year. Google began testing an AI Mode button in 2025, first inside the search bar and later in place of “I’m Feeling Lucky”, according to reports from 9to5Google, Thurrott and PCWorld. By July 2025, Google had expanded AI Mode more widely, and in its May 2026 I/O announcements the company said Search could handle longer prompts, images, files, videos and even Chrome tabs. Google also said AI Mode now sits more prominently beside the text field, while follow-up questions can be asked below AI Overviews. The company has since pointed to more agent-style search features, including background monitoring for updates and visual tools tied to its Antigravity system, with some functions reserved for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
