Google’s NotebookLM, now called Gemini Notebook, evolves beyond research aid to become a comprehensive digital support centre for household electronics, promising streamlined maintenance and troubleshooting through integrated manuals, guides, and multimedia files.
Google’s NotebookLM, now branded as Gemini Notebook, is being pitched as more than a general-purpose research tool. In practice, it can also serve as a private support desk for household electronics and appliances if users load it with manuals, warranty documents and manufacturer guidance. By doing so, the notebook can answer questions about fault codes, setup steps and maintenance instructions in a matter of seconds.
Google’s own support documentation says Gemini Notebook is built to organise sources and sustain an ongoing chat around them. It can accept PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs and Google Slides, and it works in more than 80 languages through a browser. That makes it suitable for collecting the documentation for a dishwasher, washing machine, television, smartphone or router in one place.
The setup is straightforward. Users sign in with a personal Google account, create a notebook, give it a name and upload the relevant files. Google says existing chats can also be added to notebooks, which helps keep related questions together. In the use case highlighted by Presse-citron, the idea is to build a dedicated notebook for all product manuals, then ask the model to interpret an error message, explain a feature or point to the correct safety procedure.
There are, however, limits. Google’s help pages make clear that some features depend on age and account type, and that files pulled in from Google Drive inherit existing sharing permissions. In other words, a notebook can organise information well, but it is not a substitute for the original manufacturer guidance. As with any AI system, users should verify important instructions before acting on them, especially where electricity, water damage or warranty claims are involved.
For owners of several devices, the appeal is obvious. Instead of searching across folders, paper booklets and support websites, they can keep one structured reference point for all their equipment. Used carefully, Gemini Notebook could become a practical maintenance tool rather than just a note-taking assistant.
