Minimal unveils the Phone 2, a second-generation Android device featuring a full-colour OLED display, refined hardware, and a focus on a compact, keyboard-centric experience as it moves away from e-paper technology.
Minimal has unveiled the Minimal Phone 2, a second-generation Android handset that keeps the physical QWERTY keyboard of its predecessor but drops the E Ink panel in favour of a full-colour OLED display. The change marks a clear shift away from the earlier e-paper concept and towards a more conventional smartphone experience, while the brand continues to pitch the device as a compact option for users who want a keyboard-first phone.
According to 3DNews, the phone measures 122.6mm by 72mm by 9.48mm, a size that keeps it pocketable despite the hardware keyboard beneath the screen. It is being sold in standard 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB variants priced at $599 and $675, with a Founder’s Edition at $899. The regular models come in Onyx and Pearl, while the Founder’s Edition is limited to Ember.
The display is a 3.92-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1,080 by 1,240 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Inside, the phone uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 8300 chip, paired with a 3,000mAh battery. Charging support includes 27W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The main camera is a 50-megapixel unit with an f/1.8 aperture, and the front camera uses a 20-megapixel sensor.
Minimal’s software layer, Minimal OS, is based on Android. The phone also supports Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and Wi-Fi 6E, and includes a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a single physical SIM slot and eSIM support. Other hardware features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, dual microphones and a USB-C port that can output video over DisplayPort as well as carry audio. Reports from Muymovil, Telepolis, Technetbooks and Glitchwire say the device has also been reworked with a more premium aluminium build, a polished metal frame and a refined keyboard aimed at improving tactility and typing accuracy, with the company positioning it as a small 5G phone for people seeking a more restrained mobile experience.
