Leaked reports suggest the next iPhone Pro Max will boast a larger battery, a new 2 nanometre chip, and camera improvements, but these enhancements may drive prices higher in India, with launch expected in September 2026.
Apple’s next premium iPhone could arrive with meaningful hardware changes, but the sharper performance may come with a steeper Indian price tag. Reports cited by several technology outlets suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max may gain a larger battery, a new 2 nanometre-class chip and camera refinements, while rising memory costs could push the device further above the current Pro Max price band in India.
The launch window is still only an expectation, but the usual September timing appears to be intact. The Economic Times and Mint both reported that Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September 2026, with availability following the company’s familiar autumn cycle. The same reports indicate that Apple may keep India close to its global rollout pattern, even though higher-demand Pro Max colours and storage variants can still be difficult to secure at launch.
Camera improvements are expected to be among the most important changes. According to reports from The Economic Times, Gadgets 360 and Mint, Apple may introduce a variable-aperture main camera, which would allow the lens opening to change depending on lighting conditions. A wider aperture can improve low-light performance, while more precise aperture control can also influence background blur and depth of field. The telephoto camera is also tipped to receive a wider aperture, suggesting Apple is continuing to position the Pro Max as its most capable imaging device.
Battery life is another area where the model could separate itself from the rest of the range. Industry reports cited in the coverage point to a 5,567mAh battery for an eSIM-only version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, up from roughly 5,088mAh said to be used in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If accurate, that would give Apple more headroom for all-day endurance, though the larger cell could also make the handset thicker and heavier, with some reports suggesting it may exceed 240 grams. Indian variants may differ depending on SIM configuration, so the final specification will need official confirmation.
Pricing is where the picture becomes less comfortable for buyers. Goodreturns said the iPhone 17 Pro Max launched in India at Rs 1,49,900 for the 256GB model, and current estimates suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could stay near that level only if Apple absorbs more of its own input costs. The biggest pressure appears to come from rising DRAM and NAND prices, which could raise production costs across high-storage configurations. On the scenarios outlined in the reports, a 256GB model could remain at Rs 1,49,900 in the best case, rise to Rs 1,54,900-Rs 1,59,900 under a moderate increase, move to Rs 1,64,900-Rs 1,69,900 if costs climb more sharply, or cross Rs 1,74,900 in a more expensive scenario. Those figures remain unofficial and could still be affected by duties, GST, exchange rates, local manufacturing and Apple’s own pricing choices.
There is also uncertainty over the wider specification set. Gadgets 360 reported that the line may use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, while The Economic Times noted a possible Dark Cherry finish for the Pro range. PhoneArena has separately suggested the device could ship with iOS 27 and deeper AI-focused Siri changes, although those software details are further ahead and less certain. For owners of older Pro Max models, the battery and camera upgrades may make the upgrade more compelling. For iPhone 17 Pro Max users, the case may be less clear unless Apple delivers a noticeable step forward in daily performance, photography and endurance.
