Victorinox launches the Concept One, a refined 39mm sports watch available with solar and automatic movements, emphasising simplicity and durability for everyday wear.
Victorinox’s Concept One is a reminder that sports watches do not have to be oversized or shout for attention. The new collection takes a restrained approach, pairing a 39mm stainless-steel case with a minimalist dial and a hexagonal bezel that gives the watch a sharper visual identity than the usual round sports watch. According to Victorinox, the aim is to combine simplicity with practical use, and the result is a watch that is meant to work as an everyday piece rather than a niche statement item.
The headline change is that the Concept One arrives in two movement variants. Victorinox says one model uses the Swiss-made Ronda 215 solar quartz movement, its first solar-powered watch, while the automatic version uses the La Joux-Perret G100. WatchPro reported that the solar movement can draw energy from both natural and artificial light, reducing the need for regular battery changes, while the automatic calibre is known for its 68-hour power reserve. Both versions are rated to 100 metres of water resistance.
Design details are where the Concept One tries to balance refinement with utility. The case has a brushed finish, while the hands are polished and coated with luminous material for low-light visibility. The seconds hand is extended and, on the solar model, appears as a more open outline to let in more light. Victorinox also uses a quick-release strap system, with rubber and steel options available, although WatchReport notes that the strap width is slimmer than the industry norm, which may limit aftermarket choice.
There are trade-offs. The case does not appear to use a scratch-resistant coating, even though the mineral crystal does, and the crown is left exposed rather than protected. WatchReport priced the automatic version at $1,450, while the model is also listed in Poland from 3,490 złoty. That places the Concept One in a competitive middle ground: not a luxury showpiece, but a carefully judged sports watch that leans on familiar Victorinox strengths such as robustness, clean design and modular straps.
