Seagate’s 20TB IronWolf Pro hard drives have been discounted to $669.99 at Newegg, offering a compelling upgrade for small businesses and home NAS systems with enhanced capacities, CMR technology, and included data recovery services.
Seagate’s IronWolf Pro 20TB hard drive is back in focus after Newegg cut the price to $669.99, a discount of about $94 on a drive aimed squarely at multi-bay network-attached storage systems. TechRadar says the offer is notable because large NAS drives do not often fall much in price, especially at this capacity. The model uses conventional magnetic recording, or CMR, rather than shingled magnetic recording, a choice that generally suits RAID arrays and mixed read-write workloads better.
The drive is built for round-the-clock operation and is rated at 7,200rpm with a 256MB cache, while Seagate also includes vibration control features and its IronWolf Health Management monitoring software. According to TechRadar and KitGuru, it is designed for always-on home servers, small business NAS units and commercial multi-user storage setups. Seagate also bundles three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services, which may appeal to buyers treating the disk as long-term primary storage rather than a simple backup device.
Review coverage suggests the 20TB model is a measured upgrade rather than a radical one. TechRadar’s review found sequential read and write speeds improved by close to 10% over the 18TB version, with slightly lower power draw under load. Tom’s Hardware described the drive as a solid option for NAS and workstation users looking for high-capacity storage with clear warranty support, while KitGuru noted that active power use fell compared with the earlier model even if idle consumption rose slightly.
There is, however, one clear limitation. TechRadar flagged the 300TB-a-year workload rating as relatively modest for its class, which means users with heavy write cycles or frequent integrity checks may prefer Seagate’s Exos line instead. For most home and small-office NAS buyers, though, the combination of CMR recording, 24/7 duty-cycle support and a rare price cut makes this 20TB model a practical way to add capacity without moving into full enterprise pricing.
