Honour accelerates its innovation edge with the global rollout of its first robot phone, integrating a mechanical gimbal, AI tools, and cinematic-grade imaging in a move that could redefine flagship smartphones.
HONOR has started its global rollout of the Robot Phone, a handset that pushes further into mechanical imaging and on-device AI than a conventional flagship. The company first unveiled the model at Mobile World Congress in March and later confirmed an August global launch at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, though it has not yet said when the phone will reach the Philippines or how much it will cost there.
At the centre of the design is HONOR’s Titanium Agile Gimbal, a 4DoF mechanical system that the company says uses more than 100 precision parts and more than 100 patents. HONOR says it reduced the module’s size by 65% while increasing structural strength by 200%, and claims the 2.6-gram titanium motor can move at up to 360 degrees per second. Reports from the company’s launch materials say the gimbal stays hidden inside the phone until the camera is activated, then deploys quickly to support subject tracking and stabilisation.
The camera system is the first product from HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI, the German cinema equipment maker. According to HONOR, the system combines ARRI Image Science with the company’s H1 image chip and supports ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks for more controlled colour work in post-production. The rear setup includes a 200-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and f/1.6 aperture, a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 2.7x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 122-degree field of view.
HONOR is also tying the moving camera hardware to a broader set of AI tools in MagicOS. The company says YOYO Robot Mode combines multimodal perception, gesture recognition and physical movement, while Voice Source Localisation and AI Live-Tracking can keep a user in frame for vlogs, livestreams and video calls. On the hardware side, the Robot Phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform and pairs that with a 7,060mAh silicon-carbon battery, 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Reports ahead of launch also pointed to two storage versions and two colour options, suggesting HONOR is treating the device as a fully commercial product rather than a concept phone.
