RedMagic unveils the Astra 2, a high-end Android gaming tablet featuring a 185Hz OLED display, advanced cooling system, and top-tier Snapdragon chip, targeting mobile gamers seeking desktop-level responsiveness in a portable form.
REDMAGIC has put its Astra 2 gaming tablet on sale globally, positioning it as a high-end Android device aimed squarely at mobile gamers who want desktop-style responsiveness in a portable form. The company says open sales begin on August 26, with pricing set at $749 for the 12GB and 256GB model and $849 for the 16GB and 512GB version in select markets.
The headline feature is a 9.06-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2,400 by 1,504 pixels, a 313ppi pixel density and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. REDMAGIC says the panel can reach 1,100 nits of typical brightness and 1,600 nits at peak, while also supporting a 300Hz global touch sampling rate and up to 2,000Hz instantaneous touch response. Notebookcheck said the display and pricing place the Astra 2 among the more aggressive gaming tablet launches of the year.
Inside, the tablet uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with an Adreno 840 GPU and REDMAGIC’s RedCore R4 gaming co-processor, which the company says is designed to improve frame-rate stability and upscaling. Memory options run to 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X, while storage is offered at 256GB or 512GB using UFS 4.1. That hardware aligns with earlier launch reporting from 9to5Google and PhoneArena, both of which described the Astra 2 as a top-tier Android gaming tablet built around the latest Snapdragon platform.
Thermal control is another central selling point. REDMAGIC says the tablet uses a 12-layer AquaCore Cooling System 2.0 that combines liquid cooling, Liquid Metal 3.0 and a large vapour chamber. The company also highlights a visible liquid-cooling structure as part of the design. Android Central said the cooling setup, together with the larger 8,300mAh battery, is intended to support sustained high performance during longer gaming sessions.
The rest of the specification sheet is similarly ambitious. REDMAGIC lists 75W wired charging, bypass charging, dual USB-C ports, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. There is a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 9-megapixel front camera, dual stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, RGB lighting and support for external displays at up to 4K at 144Hz or 8K at 60Hz over a wired connection. The tablet runs REDMAGIC OS 11.5 based on Android 16, measures 207.1 x 134.2 x 6.9mm, weighs 363 grams and comes in Starfrost Silver and Eclipse Black with an IP54 rating.
