The latest version of iZotope’s Neutron 5 introduces new modules, improved platform compatibility, and AI-assisted features, reaffirming its status as a reliable channel-strip suite for producers, despite some onboarding challenges.
iZotope’s Neutron 5 remains a practical choice for producers who want a channel-strip style mixing suite that can speed up routine decisions without forcing them into heavy manual adjustment. In a recent hands-on verdict, the software was praised for its honest latency reporting and reliable delay compensation across major digital audio workstations, while its sound was said to hold together well in busy mixes without introducing obvious processing artefacts.
The wider feature set helps explain that appeal. iZotope describes Neutron 5 as a 10-tool suite built around mix-shaping and refinement, with AI-assisted functions such as Mix Assistant alongside mid/side and transient/sustain modes, plus Delta monitoring for auditioning what processing removes. MusicRadar also reported that the 2024 update added Clipper, Density and Phase modules, extending the plug-in beyond a standard strip into a more complete mix workstation.
Compatibility is another strength. According to iZotope’s release notes, Neutron 5 received major platform support in version 5.0.0, released on October 28, 2024, with AAX, AU and VST3 formats in 64-bit only, plus support for macOS Ventura and Windows 11. A later update on February 4, 2026, addressed iLok authorisation issues in surround instances and refreshed supported macOS versions, which suggests active maintenance rather than a static release.
The main criticism is not about capability but about onboarding. The hands-on report found the manual too thin and said users may need iZotope’s video content to understand some functions properly, making documentation the only notable point of friction over a longer test period. Even so, the verdict was that Neutron 5 is a sensible trial for anyone already comparing several channel-strip options, and a defensible first pick for users who want one dependable tool rather than a large rack of alternatives.
