Dixon Technologies deepens partnership with Vivo through new smartphone manufacturing subsidiary

Dixon Technologies advances its electronics manufacturing footprint in India by establishing a new JV with Vivo, marking a significant step in its expansion within the fast-growing handset market and regulatory landscape.

Dixon Technologies is moving ahead with a new subsidiary that will take on original equipment manufacturing for electronic devices, including smartphones, in a step that deepens its partnership with Vivo in India’s fast-growing handset production market. According to a regulatory filing cited by Communications Today, the company is in the process of incorporating Adivistar Electronics India, with Dixon set to hold a 51% stake through an initial investment of ₹2.55 crore.

The filing said Dixon will subscribe to 25,50,000 equity shares at a face value of ₹10 each, with the investment to be made in cash. It also said the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has approved Vivo Mobile India’s proposed investment in the new entity, clearing a key regulatory hurdle for the venture.

The joint venture had already received government approval in the second week of July after Dixon and Vivo signed a term sheet on December 15, 2024. Indian Express reported that the arrangement is among the early approvals under the revised Press Note 3 framework, which governs investment from neighbouring countries and allows up to 10% non-controlling ownership. Legal adviser CAM said in July that the venture will involve manufacturing electronic devices, including smartphones, in India, with Dixon holding 51% and Vivo 49%.

The new company is expected to become an important part of Dixon’s mobile business. Reuters, citing the company, reported that the transaction should be completed within two months and that revenue from the venture is likely to begin showing up in Dixon’s books from the October-December quarter. The same report said the partnership could materially expand Dixon’s consolidated mobile production capacity, at a time when Vivo is estimated to have sold 3.5 crore handsets in 2025 and Dixon produced about 3.2 crore units.
