TerraMaster’s new D8 Hybrid 2 merges fast NVMe and high-capacity HDD storage in a single enclosure

TerraMaster has introduced the D8 Hybrid 2, a versatile storage enclosure combining four SATA drives and four NVMe SSD slots, designed to cater to creators and data professionals seeking fast access and high capacity in one device.

TerraMaster has launched the D8 Hybrid 2, a direct-attached storage enclosure that combines four SATA drive bays with four M.2 NVMe SSD slots in a single desktop unit. The company is positioning it as a way to keep active projects on fast solid-state storage while moving larger archives onto hard drives, a design aimed at users who need both speed and capacity in one chassis. According to TerraMaster, the system is intended for video editing, photography, media libraries, backup storage and broader data management.

TerraMaster says the enclosure can support a maximum raw capacity of 152TB when fitted with four 30TB hard drives and four 8TB NVMe drives. The company says the device uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connection with bandwidth of up to 10Gbps, with sequential read speeds reaching 1,020MB/s on NVMe storage and about 980MB/s from hard-drive RAID configurations, depending on drive layout and RAID mode.

The D8 Hybrid 2 is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux, and TerraMaster says it works as a plug-and-play device. The enclosure can also be used to expand the storage available to TerraMaster NAS systems over USB, making it a possible fit for small studios and teams that want to offload large project files without moving to a full network storage setup.

Pricing starts at $299, putting the unit in the lower end of the market for hybrid DAS hardware with both spinning-disk and NVMe support. Reports from PetaPixel and Guru3D describe the product as a single-box answer for creators who need fast scratch space alongside longer-term storage, while TerraMaster’s own specification page frames it as a general-purpose high-capacity enclosure rather than a pure performance device.
