Google Pixel Watch 5 offers modest upgrades amid rising competition from OnePlus and Samsung

Google’s Pixel Watch 5 introduces incremental updates with new health features and improved GPS, but faces strong competition from the OnePlus Watch 3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, each offering distinct appeals for different users.

Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 at its Made by Google event, but the device arrives as a relatively modest update rather than a major redesign. The new watch keeps the familiar teardrop shape, domed Actua 3D display and 41mm and 45mm size options, while adding features such as Breathing Emergency Detection, Insulin Resistance Trends and dual-band GPS accuracy. Pricing starts at $399.99 for the smaller model and $429.99 for the larger version, keeping it firmly in premium territory.

That incremental approach may leave some Android users looking elsewhere. TechRadar argues that the OnePlus Watch 3 is the best style-led alternative, thanks to its more traditional round case in titanium and stainless steel. It also offers significantly longer battery life than Google’s watch, with up to 120 hours quoted by OnePlus, although it runs the older Wear OS 5 and lacks LTE as well as Google’s latest Gemini features.

For more rugged use, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is positioned as the endurance choice. According to TechRadar’s review, the 2026 model is slimmer than before but still built around a titanium shell, with a brighter outdoor display, LTE support and fitness tools aimed at serious athletes. It adds trail-running maps, an emergency alarm and planned diving support through a Mares app. The trade-off is price: at $699.99, it is far more expensive than Google’s new watch.

There is also a simpler option for buyers who do not feel the need to upgrade. Android Central’s comparison of the Pixel Watch 4 and the Pixel Watch 5 suggests the earlier model remains close in day-to-day use, sharing the same overall design language and many of the same health features. The newer watch does improve on processing power, storage and GPS precision, but the older model can still be found through third-party retailers and may be discounted once stock clears, making it the value pick for buyers who want a near-identical experience for less.
