Amazon offers $50 gift card with Galaxy Watch 9 preorders as Samsung launches latest smartwatch

Amazon’s limited-time preorder promotion includes a $50 gift card for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9, just ahead of the official release and amidst a flurry of carrier and retailer offers that highlight the device’s upgraded features and health-focused innovations.

Amazon is dangling a $50 gift card with preorders of Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch 9, a short-lived promotion that Reuters-style deal coverage would file under launch-week incentives rather than a straight price cut. The offer applies to both the 40mm and 44mm versions and, according to Lifehacker, is set to end after Wednesday night, August 6. That leaves the smaller model at $379.99 and the larger one at $409.99 once the bonus credit is factored in.

The timing matters because Samsung unveiled the watch at its July Unpacked event and commercial availability is due to begin on August 7, according to PhoneArena, Android Central and Yahoo Tech. Those outlets said Amazon’s promotion is available across all variants, making it one of the more accessible preorder offers for buyers who were already planning to pick up Samsung’s latest everyday smartwatch.

Samsung has positioned the Galaxy Watch 9 as a more refined follow-up to last year’s model. The watch now uses a slimmer 8.6mm case and a brighter AMOLED display that can reach 3,000 nits, while an upgraded Qualcomm SW6100 chip is meant to improve processing and graphics performance. Samsung also has increased battery capacity: the 40mm model carries a 390mAh battery and the 44mm version a 445mAh battery, up from the Galaxy Watch 8’s 325mAh and 435mAh cells.

Beyond the hardware changes, Samsung is leaning harder into health and fitness tools. The new watch adds AI-powered features such as Vitals, Fitness Index and an updated Running Coach, along with a wrist-raise voice function that begins listening without a wake word. Samsung says the watch has IP68 protection, can handle depths of up to 50 metres and has undergone military durability testing, while the company is also pitching new flexibility tracking and improved support for water sports, including scuba diving.

Not every buyer will find Amazon’s deal the best option. Android Central reported that T-Mobile is offering the Galaxy Watch 9 for free with a new line and activation of its Watch Plan Plus, with $430 in promotional credits spread over 24 months and no trade-in requirement. Samsung is also running a separate promotion in New Zealand, where an official campaign offers a Prezzy Card worth up to $150 on qualifying purchases made through participating retailers between July 23 and August 31.
