Apple’s redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduce the first touchscreen on a Mac notebook, alongside tandem OLED displays, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and up to 24 hours of battery life.
Apple has unveiled a redesigned MacBook Pro line with a tandem OLED display, touch input and M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, marking the first time a Mac notebook has gained a touchscreen, according to Apple’s newsroom announcement. The new 14-inch and 16-inch models move to what Apple calls PROLED XDR, with peak brightness of 2,000 nits, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. The company says the panel also covers both P3 and Adobe RGB colour gamuts in the default mode, a combination aimed at photographers, editors and designers. (apple.com)
Apple says the display brings the biggest change to how the computer is used. Touch input is built into the panel rather than added as an overlay, which the company says should reduce latency. The system can translate taps into standard clicks for existing software, while apps such as Microsoft Office, Notion, Canva, Zoom, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender are set to receive specific support. Apple has also added Dynamic Island to Mac, using the area for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, in another sign that the company is blending elements from the iPhone and iPad interface into the desktop line. The hardware has also been pared back physically. Apple says the 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, or about 1.36kg, while the 16-inch version comes in at 4 pounds, or about 1.81kg, with both machines thinner than before. Battery life is quoted at up to 24 hours, and the company says the M5 Max can run very large language models on the device itself, supported by up to 128GB of unified memory and as much as 16TB of storage. In Vietnam, the new MacBook Pro is listed at 79.999.000 dong for the 14-inch model and 92.999.000 dong for the 16-inch version, placing the launch firmly in the premium end of the market. (apple.com)
