Casio introduces a modern twist to its legendary F-91W digital watch, blending nostalgia with practical features like Bluetooth and activity tracking, while retaining its classic minimalist design. The new model is already a hit in Japan, selling out quickly at a higher price point.
Casio has returned to one of its most recognisable digital watches and, this time, has added Bluetooth and activity tracking without stripping away the stripped-back look that made the original famous. The new F-B100W keeps the familiar rectangular form of the F-91W, a model Casio says has been on sale since 1989 and remains prized for its light weight, slim case and low-cost simplicity.
According to Casio, the classic F-91W was built around basic everyday functions: water resistance, an alarm, a stopwatch and a backlight. The F-B100W follows that same philosophy, but adds a step counter, lap timing, phone connectivity and automatic time synchronisation. It also keeps the low-maintenance approach of a battery-powered watch, with Casio saying the cell should last about two years.
The new model is already drawing attention in Japan, where it is listed at ¥8,800, or about $55, and has reportedly sold out. That price puts it well above the original F-91W, but the comparison is not straightforward. The newer watch is being sold as a bridge between nostalgia and practicality, not as a full smartwatch. It does not include the health-tracking features common on modern wearables, such as heart-rate monitoring or sleep analysis.
Casio has also kept the physical design close to the source material. The watch measures 41.9 × 38.1 × 8.8 mm and weighs 26 grams, while the strap uses bio-based plastic with ventilation slits for comfort. The company is offering three variants, including one with a positive LCD and retro colour accents and another with a negative display. For buyers who want a familiar Casio digital watch with a few useful modern functions, that restrained approach may be the appeal.
