Garmin’s fēnix 9 series boosts durability and display brightness with new Pro models

Garmin has expanded its flagship fēnix line with the innovative fēnix 9 series, featuring advanced displays, stronger materials, and enhanced navigation and training features to appeal to outdoor and multisport enthusiasts.

Garmin has expanded its flagship fēnix line with the fēnix 9 series, a family of multisport GPS watches aimed at users who want one device for training, navigation and everyday wear. The range spans 22 models and combines the brand’s familiar rugged styling with more advanced displays, stronger materials and broader feature sets for outdoor use.

The most notable change in the Pro versions is the move to a titanium case, which Garmin pairs with a sapphire lens and protected buttons to improve durability in harsh conditions. Retail listings describe the standard AMOLED models as using a titanium bezel rather than a full titanium case, while the Pro line goes further with a lighter, more premium build. The 51mm Pro model also gets a 1.5-inch AMOLED panel with peak brightness of 3,000 nits, a level intended to keep maps and metrics visible in strong sunlight.

Garmin has also pushed the software and navigation side harder. The watches add 64GB of storage, faster map rendering and improved panning, alongside new training tools such as stamina zones, enhanced rucking metrics and expanded rowing data. Reviews and product descriptions also point to a built-in LED torch with white, red and green modes, while selected models add inReach connectivity for messaging and emergency SOS when a phone is out of reach.

Battery life remains one of the series’ main selling points. Garmin says solar-equipped variants can run for as long as 57 days in ideal conditions, although real-world performance will depend on screen brightness, GPS use and connected features. Pricing in Japan starts at ¥148,000 and rises to ¥238,000 for the top-end versions, while US listings place the range roughly between $999.99 and $1,399.99, depending on model and connectivity options.
