Google unveils its Pixel 11 family, introducing updated camera hardware, a foldable model, and a more complex pricing structure, signalling a significant shift in its flagship smartphone offerings.
Google’s new Pixel 11 family has reached the market with a familiar strategy: four models, pre-orders already open and retail availability due on August 20. According to GSMArena, the range comprises the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, with the line-up reshaped by the end of 128GB base storage and a more confusing pricing ladder than before. TechRadar reports that launch pricing starts at $899, £879 or the equivalent in other markets, with the most expensive Fold set at $1,899, £1,799.
The base Pixel 11 is the least dramatically changed, but it is not unchanged. GSMArena notes that it moves to Tensor G6, gains Pixelsnap magnetic charging at 25W, and uses a larger 48MP main sensor, while wired charging remains at 30W. Android Central says all Pixel 11 models share the Tensor G6 platform, alongside a stronger AI and imaging package, and that Google has raised the entry storage tier to 256GB. That shift makes the phone look better value in the US than in some other regions, where the cheapest configuration has disappeared entirely.
The Pixel 11 Pro is the model that appears to benefit most from the redesign. GSMArena says it gets a larger 50MP main sensor, a higher-resolution 48MP telephoto camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a much improved 42MP selfie camera, along with a sharper LTPO display. TechRadar’s assessment is similar, describing the Pro as the most balanced option in the range because it combines the upgraded camera hardware with a more manageable size and the full feature set, including the new HiLight rear notification LED.
By contrast, the Pixel 11 Pro XL looks more like an incremental update. GSMArena says it keeps the same broad formula as the smaller Pro, but adds a 6.8-inch display and a 5,115mAh battery, which is actually smaller than the 10 Pro XL’s cell. It does, however, gain 45W wired charging. Tom’s Guide argues that this is the kind of modest revision that often makes Pixel buyers hesitate, especially because Google’s phones have historically seen quick discounts after launch.
The most substantial engineering work seems to have gone into the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. GSMArena says the new foldable has a larger outer screen, a better 48MP main camera and 25W Pixelsnap charging, while also becoming thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Even so, it remains bulkier than rival foldables, and its battery has slipped to 4,806mAh from 5,015mAh. T3 highlights the new colour options across the range, while Android Central says Google has continued to push recycled materials and other sustainability claims across the line-up. For buyers, the decision appears to come down to whether the Fold’s form factor is worth the premium, or whether the Pro is the safer purchase.
