Google Pixel 11 Pro offers significant trade-in discounts ahead of launch

Google’s upcoming Pixel 11 Pro is being promoted with an aggressive trade-in deal that could slash up to £850 from its price, positioning it as a competitive alternative to traditional network contracts ahead of its August release.

Google’s new Pixel 11 Pro is already being pitched as the model to watch in the company’s latest handset line-up, with a trade-in offer that can cut as much as £850 from the price for buyers who order by 1 September. Google unveiled the Pixel 11 series at its Made by Google event in New York on 12 August, and sales are due to begin on 20 August across four devices: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

The headline offer combines the handset’s standard trade-in value with an enhanced £400 bonus, although the full £850 depends on the device being handed in. The maximum saving is based on a 1TB iPhone 16 Pro, so many customers will receive less. Even so, the deal makes direct purchase from Google look more competitive than some network contracts. A typical Sky Mobile example cited by the Mirror would cost £1,092 over 36 months before any price rises, while Google’s own trade-in route could bring the effective cost down to £229 on the most favourable exchange.

That pricing argument matters because the Pixel 11 Pro starts at £1,079 before any trade-in, and buyers still need a separate SIM plan if they want mobile data. Google sells its phones unlocked, which means customers can choose from flexible or long-term SIM-only deals rather than committing to a handset contract. Retailers are also using the launch to push bundled offers. According to TechRadar, Three is advertising substantial savings on the Pixel 11 Pro XL, while Currys-backed Mobiles.co.uk is pairing the Pro model with a free bundle worth £419 when taken with an iD Mobile tariff.

On specifications, the Pixel 11 Pro sits on Google’s new Tensor G6 chip, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Android Central says the chip is 20% faster and more efficient than before, while the TPU for AI processing is 50% quicker. The phone also has a 6.3in Super Actua display with a peak brightness of up to 3,600 nits, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Camera changes are central to the pitch: the Pro model adds a triple-camera system with up to 120x zoom, 8K video recording and new AI-led tools such as Magic Capture. Google has also introduced HiLight, a notification feature that uses the rear light bar to flag selected contacts without waking the screen.

Early hands-on reactions have been positive, though not uncritical. Android Central described the Pro phones as impressive and praised the camera features, but also said the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL are close to last year’s models in overall design, with the value coming mainly from the hardware and software upgrades. Google is leaning heavily on that mix of AI, camera improvements and direct-buy discounts to persuade buyers that the Pro model is the best point of entry in the new range.
