Google’s Pixel Watch 5 is set to enhance its flagship design with new hardware, smarter software, and stronger health and safety features, responding to a competitive market with a focus on versatility and connectivity.
Google’s Pixel Watch 5 looks set to continue the company’s familiar circular design while tightening the focus on performance, software and health monitoring. According to a Geeky Gadgets report based on TechAvid’s coverage, the watch is expected to come in 41 mm and 45 mm versions, with four finishes and a warm gold option reserved for the smaller model. The overall approach appears aimed at keeping the watch recognisable while making it more adaptable to different wrist sizes and style preferences.
Much of the appeal comes from the hardware package. Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 wearable platform, which adds satellite connectivity for emergency messaging and improved location performance, while coverage from Android Central and TechAvid says the Pixel Watch 5 may pair that platform with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. If that configuration holds, it would mark a clear move towards smoother multitasking, more room for apps and offline media, and better energy efficiency for day-to-day use.
The software story is just as important. Google says Gemini is now available on Wear OS watches, where it can be activated by voice, button press or app icon and used for scheduling, contextual help and personalised suggestions. Google’s Wear OS 7 announcement also points to more glanceable information and deeper links with connected devices, with Gemini Intelligence features expected later. That combination could make the Pixel Watch 5 feel less like a simple notification screen and more like a wrist-based assistant.
Health and safety remain central to the device’s pitch. The reported feature set includes heart rate monitoring, ECG, blood oxygen tracking, skin temperature sensing, improved sleep analysis and loss of pulse detection. The inclusion of Satellite SOS is particularly notable, because Qualcomm says its latest W5 platform supports satellite emergency messaging, which strengthens the case for the watch as a tool for travellers, runners and anyone spending time away from cellular coverage.
Pricing places the watch firmly in premium territory. Geeky Gadgets says the 41 mm Wi-Fi model starts at $399, while the 45 mm LTE version is listed at $529, with a special Stephen Curry edition at €579.99. TechRadar has also reported that some leaks point to a less dramatic chip change than early expectations suggested, which means buyers may want to weigh the promised AI and health upgrades against the possibility of only modest gains in raw processing power. Even so, Google appears to be positioning the Pixel Watch 5 as a more mature, better-rounded competitor in a crowded smartwatch market.
