Google’s latest Pixel Watch 5 introduces advanced health monitoring, AI enhancements, and a focus on wellness, with notable hardware updates and a special Stephen Curry edition launching this September.
Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 5, pitching the latest model as a more health-focused and AI-driven smartwatch with deeper Gemini integration, stronger GPS performance and faster internal hardware. The device goes on pre-order through Best Buy before a 20 August release, with prices starting at $399.99 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model and $429.99 for the 45mm version. LTE variants are also being sold for both sizes.
The strongest emphasis is on health monitoring. Google says the new Health Guardian functions can track longer-term patterns, including blood pressure trends, sleep breathing quality and insulin resistance trends, with monthly summaries intended to help users spot changes over time. The company stresses that these features are for general wellness rather than diagnosis. It also says the watch can detect possible breathing emergencies using its sensors and on-device AI, and in some select European markets it can alert emergency services if it detects a severe, sustained fall in oxygen saturation and the wearer is unresponsive.
Fitness tools have also been expanded. According to Google, the Pixel Watch 5 offers roughly twice the GPS route accuracy of the previous model in difficult environments, while a new strength training mode adds guided workouts and lets users log weights and repetitions directly on the watch. Reporting from Android Central suggests the hardware changes are limited, with the device closely resembling the Pixel Watch 4 and using the same W5 Gen 2 chip, though Google has rebranded it as “Gen 2 Accelerated”. The watch still includes 5ATM and IP68 protection, as well as Bluetooth, NFC and UWB support.
Performance gains come from a redesigned internal package that Google says delivers a 20% speed improvement, helped by 50% more RAM and a 12% CPU uplift. The screen is now rated at 3,000 nits, and battery life is quoted at up to 30 hours for the 41mm model and 40 hours for the 45mm version. New watch faces, fresh band colours and a Satin Pyrite case complete the update. T3 reported that similar health upgrades will also roll out to Fitbit Air from September, underlining Google’s broader effort to push the same wellness features across its wearable range.
Gemini is more central than before. Google says wearers can raise their wrist to launch voice requests for tasks such as starting workouts, setting timers and asking questions without reaching for a phone, while the assistant is also meant to deliver more proactive prompts. The company has also announced a special Stephen Curry edition of the 45mm watch, priced at $579 and due on 3 September, with a polished silver case, an exclusive blue band and custom watch faces and animations.
