Google has launched the Pixel Watch 5, featuring refined design, improved health tracking, and longer battery life, signalling a focus on incremental updates rather than radical innovation in its smartwatch line.
Google’s new Pixel Watch 5 keeps the company’s familiar rounded design, but Google has tried to make the latest model feel more capable rather than radically different. The watch comes in 41mm and 45mm cases, both with domed AMOLED screens that reach a claimed 3,000 nits of peak brightness, and it continues to use Corning Gorilla Glass 5, 5ATM water resistance and an IP68 rating.
Under the surface, the changes are more measured. The watch still uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 family, but Google says the chip has been retuned for better performance. Storage has been doubled to 64GB, while battery sizes have risen slightly to 332mAh on the smaller model and 465mAh on the larger one. Google says the 41mm version can last up to 30 hours with always-on display enabled or 48 hours in battery-saver mode, while the 45mm model is rated for up to 40 hours and 72 hours respectively.
Android Central reported that the Pixel Watch 5 also arrives with Wear OS 7 and Google’s Gemini-powered software features, including new widgets and more personalised watch faces. The same report said Google has added or expanded health functions such as blood pressure trends, insulin resistance monitoring, sleep breathing analysis and more detailed workout tracking, including support for interval training and weightlifting.
Google is also leaning more heavily into connectivity and safety. The watch includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, ultra-wideband and, according to TechRadar, satellite SOS support through Skylo on selected variants. That same report said the Pixel Watch 5 is designed to be more repairable than rivals such as the latest Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch models, which could appeal to buyers who value longevity as much as features.
Pricing starts at $399 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model and $429 for the 45mm version, with LTE options costing about $100 more, according to Android Central. Google is also offering a Stephen Curry edition with a special strap at $579.99. The launch again underlines Google’s strategy of refining the Pixel Watch rather than reinventing it, even as some reviewers argue that the line now needs a more ambitious model to push the category forward.
