Google prepares to launch its diminutive, screenless Fitbit Air in India this October, offering a versatile health monitoring device that pairs seamlessly with Android and iOS, setting a new trend in lightweight wearables.
Google is preparing to bring its screenless Fitbit Air to India in October, expanding its wearable line-up beyond the Pixel Watch range. The tracker was introduced globally in May and has so far been sold in selected markets, including the US and parts of Europe, according to Google’s product announcement and reporting by TechCrunch.
The device is pitched at users who want continuous health monitoring in a lighter form than a conventional smartwatch. According to Google, and as reported by Business Standard, the Fitbit Air is the company’s smallest tracker and is designed to pair with the Google Health app, where users can review their data rather than rely on an on-device display. That approach makes it closer in concept to a dedicated health band than a watch.
Its headline functions include round-the-clock heart-rate monitoring, heart rhythm alerts for atrial fibrillation, blood oxygen readings, resting heart-rate tracking, heart-rate variability, and sleep-stage analysis. Google also says the device supports automatic workout detection and comes with a week-long battery life, which should reduce the need for frequent charging, according to the company’s blog and coverage by Gadgets360. The tracker is also compatible with both Android and iOS devices, which broadens its potential audience.
Google has not confirmed Indian pricing, but the US launch price was set at $99.99 for the standard model and $129.99 for the Special Edition, with the company also offering a three-month trial of Google Health Premium in some markets. India TV News said buyers in India can expect multiple strap options, including performance and active bands, although it is not yet clear whether the full global accessories range will be sold locally. On paper, the Fitbit Air looks positioned as a simpler, more affordable alternative for people who want health tracking without the bulk, screen or distraction of a smartwatch.
